World Hypnosis DayRSS

January 4 is World Hypnosis Day. This holiday was introduced in 2006 to commemorate the death of Dr Jack Gibson.

For more than forty years, Jack Gibson used hypnosis in surgery. According to him, he performed more than 4,000 procedures without anesthesia and inspired several doctors to practice hypnosis in surgery and in the treatment of psychosomatic diseases. With the help of self-hypnosis, he cured himself of balsamic cancer and chronic varicose veins. A renowned Irish hypnotherapist dedicated his career to treating psychosomatic disorders through hypnosis.

The purpose of World Hypnosis Day is to debunk common myths around hypnosis. The bad reputation of this technique was created primarily by Hollywood movies, which repeatedly show how people under the influence of hypnosis commit crimes and do things that they would never do in real life. Professional hypnotists unanimously agree that their technique has nothing to do with total control over the mind. Today, hypnosis is widely used in the medical field of hypnotherapy.
