World AIDS Day is commemorated annually on 1 December. It was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN General Assembly in 1988. This day serves as a reminder that the global spread of HIV/AIDS must be stopped. AIDS is considered by many experts to be a plague of the 20th century, and they couldn’t be more true as according to statistics, every year more than one thousand people leave this world because of HIV infection and related diseases. AIDS is the fourth leading cause of death in the world.
